Babolat’s New XS Racquets Hit The Sweetspot

Sweet!Babolat 105 Babolat 102

That's how you can describe the new  Babolat XS tennis racquets — featuring Babolat’s new Xtra Sweetspot technology.

The Babolat XS 102 and Babolat XS 105 are enhanced with Babolat’s Xtra Sweetspot technology boasting an exclusive grommet design that significantly increases the sweet spot while providing a dampening affect and a longer contact time between the ball and string.

How does the new Xtra Sweetspot technology work? It employs a high-tech Pebax material known for its lightweight, flexible, and resilient properties. The Pebax grommets are positioned on each side of the XS racquet head to substantially enlarge the sweet spot. This design will give players a visible advantage over other mid-plus racquets because they will get the benefit of a larger sweet spot without having to enlarge the racquet head. This combo will also allow players to generate more forgiving shots with increased power.

Larger sweetspot, longer contact and more power — now that's Sweet!

adidas Racquets Are Back

Barricade Freddy did it.

Puma did it.

Converse, Stan Smith.... need we go on?

And now, following in the footsteps of tennis legends Ilie Nastase and Ivan Lendl, adidas racquets are back.

In a quest to provide tennis players with everything they need to take part in one of the most popular sports in the world, adidas will be introducing three lines of racquets designed for players of every level. And using a little play on words, each racquet is named after one of adidas tennis shoes lines — Barricade, Response and Feather.

Four Barricade models have been created; The Barricade Tour is designed for the "Tournament Player."  It is the heaviest at 330g and the
stiffest of the new adidas rackets, ideal for fast swinging players who can generate their own power and look for additional control.

The Barricade Tour Light is 30g lighter, suiting good juniors, but it offers the same control with every swing. Both the Barricade Tour and
Tour light come with and 18/20 string pattern to give excellent control and a crisp feel.

The third racket in this range is the Barricade itself; a lighter and less stiff version of the Tour racket with a 16/19 string pattern to
ensure a forgiving and playable racket for competition players. The Barricade Junior, meanwhile, satisfies the needs of young budding tennis
stars.

All rackets in the Barricade family feature the adidas POWER STRUCTURE TECHNOLOGY (PST). Three structures at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock act like the claws on the Barricade shoe to improve torsional stability. This technology transfers to adidas rackets by adding weight at the same
points, putting pop into your shots and increasing the sweetspot.

The Response racket has the perfect combination of power and control for most club players. The higher frame height gives greater power while the stiffness and string pattern bring control. The Feather is the lightest of the adidas Tennis Racket range just like the Feather shoe. However the Feather actually has the thickest frame offering a little extra power for the recreational or older club player seeking an easy to handle racket.

If you want to be one of the first to play with one of these new racquets, you'll have to wait for a while. They aren't expected to hit store shelves until early 2009.

The Final Four: Weapons of Choice At The 2008 US Open

As anyone who plays the game will tell you, it's not the racquet that matters, it's the player. Yet asJankovic rac Serena rac Murray Rac Federer rac we've watched two great weeks of tennis in New York, you have to wonder, how much does the racquet help and as I'm sure each of these players will tell you, selecting the right racquet makes a big difference.

With that said, here's a look at the final four weapons of choice used in the men's and women's singles finals at the 2008 US Open.

Five-time US Open men's singles finalist Roger Federer uses the Wilson KSix.One Tour and for good reason. The best-selling KSix.One Tour is a performance oriented racquet designed for the serious tennis player with long, fast swings — it is quick through the contact zone and offers up a larger sweetspot. At net the KSix-One feels rock solid and very precise. On serve there is plenty of control. At 12.5 ounces strung, the Six.One Tour is a heavy racquet that is perfect for advanced tennis players looking for a consistent racquet that plays well from all parts of the court. This stick is meant for competitive tennis players looking to add control, consistency, and precision to their game. All in all a very impressive racquet that has helped Roger grab a few Grand Slam titles.

First time men's singles finalist Andy Murray hits with a Head MicroGEL Radical Pro tennis racquet — players with aggressive swings will find an appealing blend of power and control. The solid feel at impact makes for comfortable hitting and we found solid resistance to racquet torque during heavy hitting. At net this racquet feels as solid as a rock with enough punch to get volleys deep to the corners.  To beat Roger Federer in the finals today, Andy will need to be on the attack from all areas of the court. This racquet will definitely help.

As she powered her way through the draw to the title at the US Open, the weapon of choice for Serena Williams, was the  Wilson K Factor KBlade Team — a  racquet that provides exceptional feel, maneuverability and power. The 104 square inch head-size provides a large sweetspot while the sub 11 ounce weight offers tremendous maneuverability. From the baseline, the 27.3 inches frame length offers more leverage when looking for some extra pop on deep shots or pass shots yet at the same time, the racquet is very maneuverable when hitting short, angled shots with plenty of spin. The string-bed provides a generous sweetspot, which combines with the light weight mobility for a forgiving response at net. There is plenty of punch offered making it easy to put away volleys. Overall, a good racquet choice for the player looking for some added power, feel and maneuverability or perhaps, a US Open trophy.

The top-selling Prince O3 Speedport Pro White tennis racquet is the weapon of choice for US Open Women's Singles finalist Jelena Jankovic. The O3 White offers a nice blend of power, control, comfort and maneuverability. This a perfect racquet choice for those looking for a little more  "pop", racquet speed and stability. The O3 can really delivers well on the court providing solid groundies and is very responsive at the net — with a little punch, it provides good depth and a solid feel. The Prince O3 engineering technology provides a large sweet spot on a maneuverable and aerodynamic frame without enlarging the racquet head, increasing its length, or adding weight — all good reasons to make it a top-seller.

Head Crossbow Racquets: A New Style Of Tennis Weapon

When you  hear the word Crossbow, you might conjure up an image of a bow mounted weapon that shootsHAF708-1 projectiles and is often related to hunting or warfare — HEAD Penn Racquet Sports is hoping that a similar image is conjured up with its new Crossbow technology — power loaded technology that features the world’s first and only dynamic bridge racquet construction.

The new CrossBow Technology can be found in five new racquets from HEAD, including the CrossBow 10, the CrossBow 6, as well as the next-generation of Airflow racquets designed for women including the Airflow 7, Airflow 5, and Airflow 3.

Power loaded for players with shorter more compact swings, CrossBow Technology features a bridge suspended from the frame that moves independently, allowing the racquet to store energy in both the stringbed and the bridge. The two-piece design acts like a spring or bow that is loaded during ball impact and is released as the ball accelerates off the stringbed for maximum power.

The CrossBow lines will also include HEAD’s newly re-designed stabilizer to eliminate racquet vibration and  uses 10 main strings though the bridge, offering a larger sweetspot than is found on conventional fixed-bridge racquets.

Make the CrossBow your new weapon of choice!
