Not to be outdone by Roger Federer or Serena Williams who opened Day One with their new fashion-forward duds from Nike, Maria Sharapova stepped on Court One today for her opening-round match with a little surprise of her own.
The former champion made her first appearance wearing a two-piece tuxedo inspired warm up suit. Underneath, she was wearing a top with "a tuxedo bib front" and a pair of men's shorts.
"I'm changing it up this year," said Sharapova, the 2004 champion. "I'm going with the traditional shorts, believe it or not. I've never worn shorts at a grand slam. I'm going to be debuting that. Call it menswear, obviously. It's kind of like a tuxedo look, very simple lines, classic."
Nike spared no detail when it came to putting a Sharapova outfit together before the Wimbledon Championships, both the tuxedo jacket and trousers contain gold stitching in addition to using state-of-the-art performance fabrics .
And to top her outfit off – a pair of Tiffany Swing Triple drop Earrings with diamonds set in platinum.
So far, this outfit is only available at the Nike Store on the Wimbledon grounds but watch for it soon at Maria's store at Tennis Warehouse.
