Dapper Roger and Fashion-Forward Serena Make Fashion Statement At 2008 Wimbledon

Wimbledon and fashion have always been closely linked. Back in 1949 at the Championships, it was 'Gorgeous’ Gussie Morgan who caused a bit of stir with her lace-trimmed panties.

On day one of the Championships, it was Roger Federer and Serena Williams looking stunning in theirSerena wimbledon Roger-Wimbledon specially made Nike outfits, that captured the eyes of the photographers.

Federer, who loves the traditions of the game, walked onto Centre Court in retro fashion— his herringbone-pattern, four-button cardigan with gold trim and a stylized F on a badge on his left chest  — was a throw back to Fred Perry and the old-school glamour of tennis style in the 1920s.

Meanwhile, Serena Williams made a fashion statement of her own. She made her first on court appearance of the fortnight wearing a white belted, thigh-length trench-coat, or Mackintosh. Underneath, was a simple white Nike dress.

These two top players and Nike have created a great way to embrace tradition, but with a modern twist on Wimbledon whites.
